ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills change in player leadership certainly is different this season.
Josh Allen and Terrel Bernard are the only two captains for 2024.
Head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that a group of about 10 other players will work as a leadership council to help Allen and Bernard guide the team.
This is the sixth-straight season Allen is a Bills captain.
It is the first time for Bernard.
"It's a huge honor to be elected a captain to an NFL team," Allen said. "That being said, it takes a village. It takes everybody on this team to follow coach McDermott's leadership and the trajectory that he has for this team. The mindset. We're just there as guys to help push and help bring along."
"Having the trust and respect of my teammates is a big thing for me," Bernard said. "Something that I really tried to work on over these last couple years. So to be named captain, I don't take it lightly. I know it's something that I'm going to have to work on every single day. Just holding myself to a standard and doing that to the guys around me. I'm thankful and I'm ready to really just get to work."
Six of the eight Bills captains from 2023 are no longer on the team, including Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Mitch Morse, Tyler Matakevich, Jordan Poyer, and Micah Hyde.
Von Miller was also a captain last season.
