PARKER – Twelve people and one organization will become the newest inductees to the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame Wednesday.
The Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame recognizes everyone from drivers to builders to mechanics to owners to everyone in between for their achievements in motorsports in the Centennial State and beyond.
The 2015 Class includes:
-Furniture Row Racing General Manager Joe Garone
-Stock car driver Pat Petrie
-Drag racer and educator Chuck Hamann
-Car builder Ron Schleiger
-Hill climber and spring car driver Butch Hardman
-Figure eight champion Dave Tansey
-Late model stock car driver Joe James, Jr.
-Midget and Sprint car champion Steve Troxell
-Drag racer Deloy Naeb
-Hill climber champion Leonard Vahsholtz
9NEWS spoke to Garone about how it feels to be recognized for his accomplishments.
"The induction into the Hall of Fame is truly a surprise and an honor," he said. "One of the highlights to me … is really about Colorado.
"For the past 10 years, we've been flying the Colorado flag on our pit box during the majority of the cup races."
Furniture Row racing has had its best season in 10 years. Driver Martin Truex Jr. is looking good in the Chase for the Sprint Cup after a third-place finish Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Garone and the other inductees will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday at the Vehicle Vault at 18301 Lincoln Meadows Pkwy in Parker. The event is expected to last from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and it's open to the public. Tickets are $50.
During the ceremony, the Rocky Mountain Quarter Midget Association will receive the J C Agajanian Award for contributions to motorsports by an organization, and Pete Brandenburg and Rob Johnson will receive two Jerry Van Dyke Memorial Awards for outstanding contributions to motorsports by an individual.
