Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen agree to 6-year, $258 million deal

Allen became the NFL's second-highest paid player by signing a six-year contract. An NFL-record $150 million of the deal is guaranteed.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is here to stay.

The Bills announced Friday that they have agreed to terms with Allen on a six-year contract extension. Allen will be in Buffalo through the 2028 season.

Allen became the NFL's second-highest paid player by signing a six-year contract that has a potential worth of $258 million, of which an NFL-record $150 million of the deal is guaranteed.

The fourth-year starter still has two years left on his contract, and the extension locks him up through the 2028 season.

The total value and annual average of the Allen's deal ranks second in the NFL behind only Kansas City Chiefs starter Patrick Mahomes. The Bills announced the signing, and a person with direct knowledge told the Associated Press of the contract’s value.

The 25-year-old quarterback is entering his fourth season with the Bills. According to the Bills, last season he broke the single-season franchise records for touchdown passes (37), completions (396), completion percentage (69.2), 300-yard games (8), passing yards (4,544), and total touchdowns (46).

In 2020, Allen was also named a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler.

Earlier this month, Bills general manager Brandon Beane told The Associated Press he was giving himself until the start of Buffalo’s preseason schedule to negotiate a long-term extension with quarterback Josh Allen before putting off discussions until next year.

Allen's contract was scheduled to run until the end of the 2022 season after the Bills picked up his fifth-year option in May. Allen's option, which was announced on May 3, was worth $23 million.

The Bills open their preseason schedule at Detroit on August 13.
