BUFFALO, N.Y. — Sabres' fans are overwhelmingly excited about the return of Head Coach Lindy Ruff.
But of course, as is often the case in sports, there are some mixed feelings.
After the Sabres fired head coach Don Granato last week, they circled back Monday announcing Lindy Ruff is taking over as new head coach.
"Coach like Lindy Ruff? We've been waiting for him, says Tony. "I feel like we needed a new spark in the team. Especially, Ruff, we can Ruff it up," says Tony's friend, Carlos.
As the winningest coach in Buffalo Sabres' history, there are hopes Ruff will take the team further. but there are still a few nay-sayers.
"It feels like, to me, a play of the past and not looking forward," says a hockey fan.
Keelin: "You feel like this is a lazy choice?"
Fan: "Yes! I think it's a lazy choice."
What is it that Granato doesn't have and Ruff does? Besides the chance at the playoffs.
"He was the guy to get the team back into shape where they can contest for a playoff spot. But he wasn't the guy to cross the line," Hollis, a hockey fan says.
"Granato is a development coach. Lindy Ruff is someone who can push them to be the best they can be," Braden says, another hockey fan.
Here's to hoping he can help the team bring home the cup.
