UB logo to emphasize Buffalo again

The State University at Buffalo is changing the logo on sports uniforms to once again emphasize the word Buffalo.

BUFFALO, NY - The State University at Buffalo is changing the logo on sports uniforms to once again emphasize the word Buffalo.

Uniforms were changed two years ago to read 'State University of New York.'

UB Athletic Director Allen Green said "we recognize the importance of the position in Buffalo, and the pride in Buffalo."

In 2013, 2 On Your Side's Claudine Ewing asked the former Danny White, the former UB Athletic Director about the prominence of New York on athletic uniforms and facilities. He said "we're a university, not a professional sports franchise, we're not going anywhere. We're proud to be in Buffalo, but we're also proud of the fact that we're the big school in New York."

White is gone and the University has decided that that Buffalo should be the prominent word on jerseys, the court, rink and field. It's been a 12-month process involving students, alumni and the community.

UB Athletics will have a new set of logos featuring the traditional interlocking UB, a new bull design and the “Buffalo Bulls” in bold lettering.

Since new basketball and football uniforms were coming this season, you'll see the new logo this fall.

Greene said "the other uniforms we will replace and transition as best asfinancially possible. Some we may be able to do sooner than later, but we will see that change over time."

UB also launched a new identity and brand telling platform called Here is How. "It celebrates Buffalo, by virtue of the word, the experiences of being here at the University at Buffalo and the experiences of being in Buffalo," said Nancy Paton, vice president of for Communications at UB.

The University also unveiled a new bull head spirit mark on Tuesday.

The traditional interlocking UB remains the university's primary logo.
