BUFFALO, N.Y. — It may not have been the result the University at Buffalo women's basketball team was hoping for, but for Chellia Watson it was a night she will remember for the rest of her life.

In the Bulls' 67-63 loss to Toledo on Saturday, Watson put on an amazing performance, scoring 47 points and breaking the University at Buffalo school and program record for most points scored in a game.

It was the most points scored in an NCAA Division I basketball game so far this season. She also managed to score her 1,000th career point on a free throw in the second quarter.

According to UB athletics, the previous record of 43 was set by Cierra Dillard back in 2019, and 44 by Mike Martinho in 1998. The 47 points is also the most points scored by any player in Savage Arena history, besting the previous mark of 45 set by Ron Harper (Miami, Ohio) on March 8, 1985.

In her previous game, Watson scored 36 points on Jan. 24 during a home game against Bowling Green.

In 18 games so far for the Bulls this year, Watson has 449 total points along with a 80 percent free throw percentage. She leads the team in points, minutes, field goals, and 3-pointers.

Watson now moves into third overall in points scored throughout the entire NCAAW so far this season, sitting behind Caitlin Clark and JuJu Watkins.

The Buffalo Bulls have 11 games remaining for the 2023-24 regular season. With just one more game remaining in January, the Bulls sit in fourth overall in the Mid-American Conference.
