Niagara women get back into win column, Canisius falls at home to Iona

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here's a recap of Western New York NCAA Division I basketball action from Thursday.

NCAA Women: Niagara 75, Rider 56

Niagara began its final home stretch of the season against Rider on Thursday, looking to stay locked into the second spot of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The Eagles went up as much as 23 points, after taking a commanding lead early on. They would go on to win 75-56 over the Broncs and keep their spot in the standings.

Angel Parker led for the Purple Eagles with 22 points.

UP NEXT: Niagara will host Iona for their second to last home game of the regular season. Tip-off against the Gaels is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

NCAA Women: Iona 71, Canisius 58

The Golden Griffins took on Iona for their second game in a three-game homestand.

Canisius found itself up at the half, but the Gaels stormed back with 46 points in the second half to awin 71-58.

Athina Lexa had 18 points for the Griffs, adding five rebounds and two assists.

UP NEXT: Canisius will host Rider on Saturday for their final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
