College basketball roundup: Niagara snaps 3-game losing skid; Canisius falls

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here is a recap of Western New York NCAA Division I basketball action from Thursday.

NCAA Men: Niagara 66, Siena 59

The Niagara Purple Eagles faced the Siena Saints in Albany on Thursday night.

Niagara grabbed an early 7-1 lead, but Siena was able to pull things back within four at the half.

Despite tying the score on numerous occasions in the second half, the Saints fell short by a final score of 66-59.

Harlan Obioha dropped 15 points for the Purple Eagles, adding eight rebounds and one assist.

UP NEXT: Niagara will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Marist. Tip-off against the Red Foxes is scheduled for 2 p.m.

NCAA Men: Fairfield 74, Canisius 62

The Canisius Golden Griffins took on the Fairfield Stags for their second-to-last game of the regular season.

After battling closely with the Stags through the first half, the Golden Griffins found themselves down by nine at halftime. 

Fairfield was able to outscore Canisius again in the second half, leading them to a 74-62 win.

Frank Michell led for the Griffins with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

UP NEXT: Canisius will play their final game of the regular season on Saturday at Manhattan. Tip-off against the Jaspers is scheduled for 4 p.m.
