College basketball roundup: UB men win in OT; UB women sparked by triple-double

Sy Chatman led the UB men with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Rana Elhusseini sparked the UB women with the 3rd triple-double in program history.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Jonnivius Smith basket with 15 seconds left in overtime proved to be the difference Saturday as the University at Buffalo men's basketball team won its third game of the season, 82-81, against Georgia Southern.

The Bulls (3-20) won the non-conference game in Statesboro, Ga., thanks in large part to big games from Sy Chatman and Isaiah Adams. Chatman scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Adams finished with 24 points and six assists.

The Bulls led 45-33 at halftime before the Eagles rallied in the second half.

Duquesne 75, St. Bonaventure 69: Charles Pride scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Mika Adams-Woods finished with 21 points, but the Bonnies (14-9, 5-6) fell at home in Atlantic-10 play.

Canisius 73, Iona 69: Siem Uijtendaal scored 25 points and Tre Dinkins 21 as the Golden Griffins (9-14, 4-9) won in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Cam Palesse added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the home victory.

Women

Buffalo 62, Southern Mississippi 46: Rana Elhusseini recorded the third triple-double in program history, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists in the Bulls' home victory. It was the first triple-double since Dyaisha Fair in 2020. Chellia Watson added 22 points and Hattie Ogden 12 for UB (14-8, 7-3 MAC).

Mount St Mary's 70, Canisius 56: Sisi Eleko had 19 points and nine rebounds, and Brooklyn Thrash added 12 points, but Canisius (12-10, 7-6 MAAC) lost on the road.

VCU 54, St. Bonaventure 40: Dani Haskell scored 17 points for the Bonnies (4-19, 1-11 A-10), who lost on the road.
