College basketball roundup: Niagara women win 9th straight; Canisius falls

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here's a recap of Western New York NCAA women's Division I basketball action on Thursday night.

Niagara 66, Quinnipiac 60

Niagara kicked off its final road trip of the regular season at Quinnipiac on Thursday.

The Bobcats jumped ahead with the lead after one, but the Purple Eagles crawled back to take a five-point lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Quinnipiac made a last-second free throw and forced overtime, but Niagara held the Bobcats to two points in the extra frame to earn the win.

Aaliyah Parker had 23 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals as she led on the score sheet for the Purple Eagles. 

UP NEXT: Niagara will play their last road game of the regular season against Fairfield on Saturday. Tip-off against the Stags is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Manhattan 54, Canisius 51

The Canisius Golden Griffins also began their final road trip of the season, with their first stop at Manhattan on Thursday.

Despite having an eight-point lead to begin the second half, Canisius couldn't hold off the Jaspers. 

Athina Lexa led the Griffins offensively with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

UP NEXT: Canisius will travel to Quinnipiac on Saturday as they wrap up a two-game road trip. Tip-off against the Bobcats is scheduled for 2 p.m.
