Canisius, Niagara men's basketball teams both lose at home

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Here is a recap of Western New York NCAA Division I basketball action from Sunday afternoon.

NCAA Men: Rider 65, Canisius 61

The Canisius Golden Griffins had their final home game of the regular season on Sunday against the Rider Broncs.

Canisius trailed by as many as nine points but couldn't complete the comeback as it fell short. TJ Gadsden had 16 points for the Griffs, leading the team in scoring, as well as field-goal percentage and 3-point percentage.

UP NEXT: Canisius begins its final road trip of the season as it visits Fairfield on Thursday. Tip-off against the Stags is scheduled for 7 p.m.

NCAA Men: Mount St. Mary's 91, Niagara 72

The Niagara men's basketball team also had its final home game for their regular season on Sunday against Mount St. Mary's.

After being down by 13 at the half, the Mountaineers continued their offensive dominance into the second, taking a 22-point lead that would help them top Niagara.

Yaw Obeng-Mensah led the Purple Eagles with 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists. He also went 7 for 12 on field goals and 4 for 5 on 3-point attempts.

UP NEXT: Niagara faces Siena for the first of two games on the road to close out their season. Tip-off against the Saints is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.
