BUFFALO, N.Y. — There are multiple reports out Monday night that the Cleveland Browns have requested permission to speak with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll about their head coaching position. ESPN's Tom Pelissero was the first tweet out the story.
The Browns fired Freddie Kitchens after just one season after the Browns lost to Cincinnati in their season finale. The Browns finished 6-10 under Kitchens.
Daboll was the Browns offensive coordinator for two years, 2009 and 2010.
No doubt the Browns like the work he's done with Bills second year quarterback Josh Allen. Allen has made tremendous strides under Daboll's tutelage. The Browns want Daboll to work with their second year quarterback Baker Mayfield who regressed this season.
Daboll won a national championship at Alabama while on the staff of Lou Saban and has five Super Bowl rings from his days on Bill Belichick's staff at New England working with Tom Brady and company.
The 44-year-old Daboll is the fifth coach the Browns have sought permission to speak with.
