SUNRISE, Fla. - Just one pick before the Sabres, Buffalo native and former St. Joe's Marauder Dennis Gilbert was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Gilbert heard his name called with the 91st overall pick. He has already spent time in Chicago, playing for the Chicago Steel of the USHL. Next season, Gilbert has committed to play Division I hockey at the University of Notre Dame.
Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman is no stranger to Western New York as he graduated from Canisius High School. Gilbert will also join South Buffalo native Patrick Kane in the Blackhawks organization.
