WEST SENECA, N.Y. — There's a new pro team to root for in Buffalo called the Buffalo Extreme.
"We're trying to build something that's a lasting thing. We don't want to be a one-season-and-out type of organization. We're excited to get this season rolling," said a co-owner of the team, Darren Fenn.
"I think it's going to be a really fun thing. Our players are really pumped about it."
Fenn was a pro baller as well. He played overseas for 14 years, but then he retired in 2015.
"It has always been on the back of my mind to bring pro ball back to Buffalo. I think it's missing here. We purchased the rights to the team two years ago, but we weren't really in a place to bring it live, but now we are," Fenn said.
Off Mineral Springs Road in West Seneca is Fenn's gym, X-Gen Elite. It's been running for two years now. The bottom floor is where you'll find the courts, and upstairs, there is a lounge, tables to visit with friends, and a gym. This gym is also where his players practice and play home games.
Buffalo's been here before. Fans nostalgia will remember the old Buffalo Braves, the first pro basketball team in the 1970s that later became the L.A. Clippers. Places like My Cuzin Vintage, where fans can continue to hold on, and there they make new stuff with the logo.
"They do miss the team here. I mean Buffalo's sports, they just love everything. The kids here always get trained in basketball. So why not miss it? Bringing basketball back to the town, I'm always for it," said Orlando, owner of My Cuzin Vintage.
"It's been a really, really fun process; A lot of learning. I'm excited to get the guys out in front of our fans. I'm just anxious and looking forward to the game," Fenn said.
