Final shipment of eclipse viewing glasses headed to Buffalo, Erie County libraries

This last batch is part of the original 300,000 glasses that were distributed earlier this year.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Museum of Science is making its third and final shipment of eclipse viewing glasses to branches of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library system locations.

"This is the last batch of glasses earmarked for the (Buffalo & Erie County Public Library system) from the original 300,000 pairs purchased by the BMS with $100,000 in funding from Erie County," the museum said in a statement.

The final shipment of eclipse viewing glasses will be sent to the Buffalo & Erie County Library system to be distributed from April 1-7.

Erie County residents are encouraged to call their local library to see if they have glasses available.

There is a limit of two pairs of glasses per person while supplies last. To find a library near you, click here: https://www.buffalolib.org/locations-and-hours.

While the museum will be open leading up to the eclipse, it will be closed the day of the eclipse on April 8, as well as the Tifft Nature Preserve.  They encourage WNY residents who don't need to travel to stay close to home to view this one-in-a-generation event.

“Erie County officials are anticipating as many as one million visitors to the WNY region for the eclipse, which will lead to extremely heavy traffic in some areas,” says BMS Chief Scientist Holly Schreiber, Ph.D. “If you do not need to travel on April 8, we urge you to consider staying at or close to home where you can safely and comfortably view this once-in-a-generation event for our region.”
