LOCKPORT, N.Y. — For a limited time, Lake Effect Ice Cream in Lockport is selling special cones ahead of the rare April 8 event.
The eclipse cones, available only at the Lockport scoop shop, are selling for $3.18, to coincide with when the path of totality will approximately approach the area.
The shop announced the eclipse cone on Wednesday, and on Thursday, the store said "we sold out of our eclipse cones in just about an hour to an hour and a half," leading to a ramp-up in production on Friday.
More recently, the shop owners on April 7 said that overall, they made nearly 2,000 cones.
Here's how store owners described the cone: A scoop of butterbeer ice cream on a crunchy sugar cone, with red sprinkles inside, then dropped in chocolate cone dip. The cones are individually packaged, so you don't need to eat them immediately. You can wait until April 8 to celebrate the special occasion.
They are only being sold in Lockport. They are not available at the Hertel Avenue location in North Buffalo.
