Astronaut provides special presentation ahead of total solar eclipse

Canadian astronaut Colonial Jeremy Hansen gave a presentation as part of the museum's Eclipse-A-Palooza weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Museum of Science hosted a special guest Sunday to talk about the total solar eclipse.

Canadian astronaut Colonial Jeremy Hansen gave a presentation as part of the museum's Spring Break: Eclipse-A-Palooza weekend.

Later this month Hansen will make history as he becomes the first Canadian astronaut on the moon.

"It's a real honor, and when you think about it, it's attributed to American leadership, providing the opportunity for many Canadians to deliver their gifts, to contribute to space exploration through things like space robotics," he said. "And because of that, I've been afforded this incredible privilege to become the second country in the world to be represented in deep space."

Hansen will join other NASA experts Monday morning to present free programming at the Niagara Falls State Park Welcome Center.

Eclipse-A-Palooza featured arts and crafts, activities, and even a special presentation from Hansen. Organizers said they hoped the event provided kids a fun way to learn about science.

"We're just hoping to foster that love of science, and to introduce a really accessible, fun, scientific event to them," Dr. Holly Schreiber, chief scientist at the Buffalo Museum of Science, told 2 On Your Side.

Students from Buffalo Public Schools were able to get into the science museum for free this weekend with a student ID.
