BUFFALO, N.Y. — With a front row seat to the total solar eclipse fast approaching, Buffalo-area hotels are preparing for a rare off-season sell out.
That includes rooms going for as high as $1,200 apiece on a weeknight as visitors from across the country and beyond make their way to Western New York.
“We liken this to the Super Bowl for astronomers, novice and experts alike,” said Tom Molenda, director of hotel operations for Ellicott Hotels.
Pre-pandemic, it wasn’t uncommon for downtown operators to max out on room nights during a big convention week or for popular concerts or sporting events — but the years since have been another story altogether.
