MEDINA, N.Y. -- The Village of Medina is exploring whether sharing services with two neighboring towns, Ridgeway and Shelby, would save taxpayers money.
This comes after a proposition to dissolve the village failed at the polls in January.
Several meetings have taken place over the last couple months to discuss cost saving measures. Sharing code enforcement services is one direction that might be taken, and possibly sharing snow plow services in the winter.
"Snowplowing is also one that taxes village residents especially hard, because village residents are taxed on their town tax bill, and their village tax bill," Mayor Andrew Meier said. " However, they only receive services from one of those entities, the village. So, there's a double taxation issue we really need to address. "
Mayor Meier says adjustments to ambulance services is also being looked at.
Shared services would help lower the tax burden for residents in Medina, which is currently incredibly high.
Residents there are paying about $54 dollars per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The municipalities will meet again November 18th.
