Employees at the Tim Hortons on Niagara street in the city of Tonawanda are back to work, after police say their co-worker 25 year old Jessica Cameron was set on fire in the parking lot Monday.
"I was shocked. You don't expect to hear something like that. That's something that you might see on TV, you don't think that you'd ever see it in real life," said Manager Colleen Curtis.
City of Tonawanda Police Captain, Fredric Foels, said Cameron's boyfriend showed up to the Tim Hortons while Cameron was working. Foels said he texted her to come outside, and when she did, he threw a flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. He also set himself on fire in the process.
"I dropped everything I was doing and ran there as fast as I could. It was really bad everybody was crying hysterically I remember. It was just a really bad situation" said Curtis.
Foels said they are both still receiving treatment for severe burns at ECMC. He said the case is being handed over to the Erie County District Attorney to determine the charges that will be filed.
2 On Your Side spoke with Jessica's mother, Christina Cameron, who says she is still in critical condition on a ventilator and is expected to have multiple surgeries over the next few days.
"She's an amazing person, and it's devastating that a thing like this would happen to her. She didn't deserve it, nobody deserves something like that" said Curtis.
The community is coming together to show support for the family. The City of Tonawanda Fire Department at 44 William Street will be a drop off location for supplies for the family.
The family says they are in need of boys clothes, diapers and gift cards for gas.
A Go Fund Me account has been set up by Mayor Rick Davis to help with medical costs for the family. It has already raised more than seven thousand dollars.
"They just need maybe gift cards for groceries, gift cards for gas money because now the mom is going to have to go ECMC back and forth everyday. Just anything that would help" said Curtis.
