BB&T Corp.’s pending purchase of SunTrust Banks Inc. – the largest bank acquisition in a decade – is on track to not only reshape the financial services landscape in the southeastern United States. It could also push other regional lenders together in order to keep up with the ever-rapid speed of technology.
So which banks might fit together? According to one industry analyst, PNC Financial Services Group Inc. in Pittsburgh and Regions Financial Corp. in Birmingham could be a good pair. So too would U.S. Bancorp in Minneapolis and Comerica Inc. in Dallas.
