BUFFALO, N.Y. — Young people flee the Buffalo area in search of higher wages — or so the story goes.
The truth is considerably more complicated. Yes, the nation's major metropolitan hubs do offer larger salaries for a majority of jobs (albeit with a higher cost of living). But it turns out that Buffalo is competitive with those same urban centers in dozens of fields, as demonstrated by a new Business First study.
Business First has identified 95 occupations where the average annual pay is higher within the two-county Buffalo area than in any or all of three East Coast behemoths: Boston, New York and Washington. See which Buffalo jobs outpace East Coast metros on Business First's website.
