BUFFALO, N.Y. — Governor Kathy Hochul declared a statewide state of emergency Tuesday evening as more severe thunderstorms moved their way across the state.
Agencies across New York have fully engaged in response operations to ensure local partners have access to all available resources.
“With possible tornado touchdowns across the state, we are standing ready to assist localities however necessary as severe weather continues to move across the state,” Governor Hochul said.
“New Yorkers should be sure to monitor their local forecasts and prepare for hazardous travel and other impacts from these storms.”
The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has activated the State Emergency Operations Center and will continue to track storms in real-time.
The State Office of Fire Prevention and Control has also activated its Fire Operations Center and will deploy teams as needed throughout the state of emergency.
According to the governor, more than 170,000 customers in Upstate New York are without power Tuesday night.
New Yorkers should also continue to monitor 511 for the latest on road conditions in their immediate area.
