BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former Governor Andrew Cuomo and two of his former administration's top aides will be testifying before a Congressional panel in June to discuss their controversial 2020 decision regarding the COVID pandemic and nursing homes.
Cuomo's spokesman Rich Azzopardi confirms the story as reported originally by CNN that the former Governor will comply with a subpoena from the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
CNN reports the Governor's former Secretary Melissa DeRosa and State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker will also take part in the transcribed interview which is focusing on the March 2020 advisory to stop nursing homes from refusing to accept patients just due to a COVID diagnosis.
A previous state attorney general report found a 50 percent state health department undercount of COVID deaths of nursing home residents transferred to hospitals.
The New York Times and Wall Street Journal had also reported state documents on the issue were revised.
Cuomo's spokesman dismissed the Congressional appearance as being a purely political move with no news value and nothing turned up in previous investigations.
Here is his statement "There’s no news here, we agreed to do this months ago. This is pure politics and simple fact remains that this issue has been reviewed three times by the Department of Justice under Trump and Biden, as well as Congress and the Manhattan District Attorney who found no there there. Any real review would focus on the 10 other states with similar policies, red and blue alike.”
