State Releases Attica Uprising Documents

45 years after the Attica prison uprising ended, a new effort from the state will give people a closer look at the deadly riot.

ALBANY, N.Y. - Forty five years after the Attica prison uprising ended, a new effort from the state will give people a closer look at the deadly riot.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that his office has set up a website to host documents related to the uprising, pulled from New York's archives.

Forty three people were dead and 89 injured after police re-took the prison on September 13th, 1971 following a four-day siege.

The first batch of documents is already up- they detail the Al Jundi v. Rockefeller lawsuit filed by families of inmates, which claims prisoners were beaten and tortured during the retaking. It took 25 years for New York to pay an $8 million settlement.

More documents will be periodically added to the website.
