WEST SENECA, NY - About 8,800 NYSEG customers in West Seneca and Orchard Park were without power after a transformer overheated Saturday at 1:25 p.m., a spokesperson tells 2 On Your Side.

Power was restored at 4:28 p.m.

Many businesses in the area were closed during the outage, including Market in the Square and other stores in Southgate Plaza, and businesses along Ridge Road.

Customers in SouthGate Plaza are met with signs like these.

Crews at a substation on Langer Road said an overheated transformer was to blame.

Traffic signals were out on Union Road between Michael Road, on the Orchard Park border, and Seneca Street. West Seneca Police said generators were set up at major intersections to bring the lights back on and police officers were directing traffic at other intersections.
