Buffalo-area delegates prepare for the Democratic National Convention

Buffalo Common Council member Zeneta Everhart is among a group of people from Western New York who will cast a vote as a delegate.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Preparations are under way for the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which kicks off Monday in Chicago with speeches from President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

Former president Barack Obama is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, former president Bill Clinton is expected to speak on Wednesday, along with vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Vice President Kamala Harris will close out the convention with her nomination acceptance speech on Thursday.

Buffalo Common Council member Zeneta Everhart is among a group of people from Western New York who will be heading to Chicago to cast a vote as a delegate.

"I am very excited. I'll be leaving on Sunday, traveling to Chicago to the DNC, and I'm elated," Everhart said. "When I was first asked to be a delegate months and months back, I was excited then. What an amazing opportunity, what an honor to be able to cast your vote as a delegate."

Elected delegates from the 26th Congressional District include Melissa Bochenski, Leah Halton-Pope, Howard Johnson, Bonnie Kane-Lockwood, April Baskin, Mitch Nowakowski, Mark Poloncarz, and Jeremy Zellner.

Elected delegates from the 23rd Congressional District include Shawn Hogan, Hilda Lando, Marjorie Lawlor, Terrence MacKinnon, Terrence Melvin, and Jessica Schuster.

Party leader delegates include U.S. Rep. Tim Kennedy, State Assembly Majority Leader Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes, and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

At-large delegates include Alexandre Burgos, Jennifer Hibit, and Zeneta Everhart.

The Democratic National Convention starts Monday and ends Thursday. 

“This is an incredibly exciting time for our party,” Zellner said in a statement as the convention nears.
