ALBANY, N.Y. — Lawmakers in New York state say they'll soon unveil new proposals to crack down on government corruption.
Sen. Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin plan to unveil their ideas Tuesday on Long Island. Later in the day, Sen. Liz Krueger and Assemblyman Robert Carroll will outline their proposals.
Krueger and Carroll say they will suggest a state constitutional amendment to create an independent ethics enforcement office.
The new legislative ideas will be announced a day before the entire Legislature is scheduled to convene at the state Capitol in Albany to begin the 2019 session.
Corruption is a chronic problem in Albany, where more than 30 lawmakers have left office facing allegations of ethical or criminal misconduct since 2000.
