Here's what you need to know before you vote in the 2024 Election

Everything you need to know about early voting and voting on Election Day in 2024.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The general election will be on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Voters across the country will head to the polls to select the next President of the United States. Former President Donald Trump (R) and Vice President Kamala Harris (D) are vying for the White House.

What are the key races for voters are voting on in Western New York?

Congressional races for the 23rd and 26th District seats are up for grabs, as well as the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand (D), who is running against Republican Mike Sapraicone.

Voters will also be casting their ballot for the State Senate in New York's 61st and 63rd District.

Also on the ballot is a proposition for New York State. The state wants to make a change to Section 11 of Article 1 of the constitution, in relation to equal protection. For more information on the Proposition, click here.

When does early voting begin?

Early voting in New York state begins Saturday, Oct. 26 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 3. Check with your local Board of Elections for locations and times for early voting.

Unsure if you're registered or where to vote on Election Day? You can check here: https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov.

Where do I vote?

Each voter will vote in a certain district in their county. To see where you are voting, or if you're eligible to vote in the General Election, check your local Board of Elections in your county.

What time do the polls open on Election Day?

Polls open at 6 a.m. at polling sites across Western New York. 

What time do polls close on Election Day?

Polls close at 9 p.m. 

I forgot to register to vote, is it too late to register?

If you are planning to register to vote in the Nov. 5 General Election, mailed applications and/or in-person registrations must have been received by Oct. 26.

Those that are casting early mail-in ballots for the primary must be postmarked no later Nov. 5.

What if I have a problem while voting in person at a polling site?

Voters that experience problems can report issues to the Attorney General's office by calling the hotline number at (866) 390-2992, submitting complaints online or emailing election.hotline@ag.ny.gov. There is also a guide available to address frequently asked questions.
