Election Round Up: Voters decide US President, Congressional, Senate, local and state races

Voters headed to polls Tuesday to elect the next President of the United States.

Today is Election Day!  Voters across the country will head to the polls to select the next President of the United States. Former President Donald Trump (R) and Vice President Kamala Harris (D) are vying for the White House. Both candidates are hitting swing states in a last ditch effort to get their votes.

11:45pm: Chlundzinski leads Wallace in 143rd NYS Assembly

With 98 percent of the vote in, Patrick Chlundzinski (R) is leading incumbent Monica Wallace (D)  District 143 NYS Assembly. 

11:19pm:  North Carolina race called for Trump by AP

Trump is projected winner in swing state North Carolina, according to the Associated Press.  Harris projected to win Oregon and New Mexico

10:49pm:  Tenney wins US Congressional 24th District

Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing New York on Tuesday.

10:41pm:  Baskin wins 63rd NY Senate Seat

Erie County Legislator April Baskin is headed to Albany.  The Democrat won the 63rd NY Senate Seat. 

10:39pm: Seneca Nation elects new president

JC Seneca has been elected president of the Seneca Nation.  Seneca beat out Mike General to become president. 

10:08pm:  TOO CLOSE TO CALL

NBC News is reporting the presidential race in Georgia and Pennsylvania is too close to call. 

10:06pm:  Langworthy wins reelection to U.S. House in NY's 23rd Congressional District

Republican Rep. Nick Langworthy won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing New York on Tuesday. Langworthy defeated Democrat Thomas Carle in a district that runs nearly 190 miles along the state's border with Pennsylvania and includes some Buffalo suburbs. 

10:02pm:  Kennedy wins reelection to US Congressional NY District 26

The Associated Press is reporting Democratic Rep. Timothy Kennedy won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing New York. The victory gives Kennedy his first full term in the western New York district. He was elected to Congress in a special election in April following the resignation of Democrat Brian Higgins, who held the seat since 2005.

9:41pm:  Proposition 1 passes in New York

New York voters have approved an amendment to the state’s constitution barring discrimination based on things including “gender identity” and “pregnancy outcomes,” changes supporters say will further protect transgender and abortion rights.

9:26pm:  Harris wins New York

Vice President Kamala Harris won New York's presidential contest on Tuesday, picking up the state's 28 electoral votes, according to the Associated Pres. 

9:00pm:  Gillibrand reelected

Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was reelected to a U.S. Senate seat representing New York on Tuesday. Gillibrand defeated Republican Mike Sapraicone, a retired New York City police detective.

8:32pm:  Trump, Harris gain more electoral votes:

The Associated Press is calling Donald Trump the projected winner in Arkansas and Kamala Harris the projected winner in New Jersey and Delaware.  Full results here:  wgrz.com/elections

8:00pm:  Harris, Trump projected winners in some states where polls have closed

Donald Trump has been declared the projected winner in South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama and Mississippi.  Kamala Harris has been declared the projected winner in Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.  Full results here:  wgrz.com/elections

6:00PM:  Polls closed in some states

Some polling locations have closed in Indiana and Kentucky.  You can get latest election results at: wgrz.com/elections

3:38pm:  New York Governor Kathy Hochul discusses election safety

“No matter who you vote for, it’s critical that your vote is counted and you can exercise your right safely,” Governor Hochul said in a press release. “We are monitoring the situation closely and are not aware of any credible threats to New Yorkers’ safety or to the security of their vote. I’m grateful to all of the election workers, first responders and public servants who are working around the clock to ensure voters have a smooth process today.”

1:30 pm: Man arrested with torch, flare gun at US Capitol Visitor's Center

U.S. Capitol Police said they arrested a man with a torch and a flare gun who attempted to enter the Capitol Visitor Center on Tuesday. USCP posted notice of the arrest to their official account on the social media site X, formerly Twitter, just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

11 am:  Voters casting their ballots

2 On Your Side's Natalie Faas went to a poll site at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo in the Elmwood Village where as of 11 a.m. they had voters cast 600 ballots. When Natalie was first there at 6 a.m. voters at that site cast 150 ballots by 7 a.m. 

9:30 am:  FBI Warning

The FBI is warning voters of fabricated videos misusing its name and insignia. A news clip that purports to come from the FBI tells voters that they should vote remotely because of a high terror threat at polling stations. Read more here.

8:45 AM: Attorneys general urge a ‘peaceful transfer of power’

The attorneys general from 47 states and three U.S. territories are urging people to remain peaceful and to preemptively “condemn any acts of violence related to the results.”

7:05 am:   Where is my polling site?

The Erie County Board of Elections reminds voters they must use their designated polling place to vote today.  If you're unsure where that is, you can contact your local county board of elections office. 

6:51am:  Bergen voters new polling place

Genesee County Board of Elections reminds registered voters who live in Bergen they now vote at the Gillam Grant Community Center. Any questions, call the Board of Elections 585-815-7804

6:10 am:  Voting Problems

Several voters contacted 2 On Your Side with technical issues at some of the polling place.  Voters that experience problems can report issues to the Attorney General's office by calling the hotline number at (866) 390-2992, submitting complaints online or emailing election.hotline@ag.ny.gov. There is also a guide available to address frequently asked questions.
