Langworthy, Carle vie for U.S. Congressional District 23 seat

Incumbent Republican Nick Langworthy is running against Democrat Thomas Carle.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The U.S. Congressional District 23 race is on between incumbent Republican Nick Langworthy and Democrat Thomas Carle. 

Langworthy won the general election in 2022 against Democrat Max Della Pia. He won that election with 64.9 percent of the vote, according to the New York State Board of Elections.

The primaries for both parties were canceled this year.

The election for the U.S. Congressional District will be on Tuesday, Nov. 5. This race includes Chautauqua, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties, and parts of Erie County.

Here's what we know about the two candidates.

Nick Langworthy

Langworthy was first elected to serve in Congress in 2022. He currently serves as a member of the House Rules, Agriculture, and Oversight committees. He got started working in the district office of former U.S. Rep. Tom Reynolds. He was born in Jamestown and graduated from Pine Valley Central School.

Langworthy had served as the New York State Republican Party chairman before being elected two years ago. He defeated Carl Paladino in the GOP primary before winning in the general election. In 2016, Langworthy was appointed by then-President Donald Trump to the executive committee of his transition team. He was also endorsed by Trump on 2022.

Thomas Carle

According to Carle's website, he is a retired plant manager of food and beverage manufacturing, and also a manager of human resources. Carle said he graduated from Broome Community College and attended SUNY Geneseo and Rochester Institute of Technology.
