Here's what you need to know about voting in the 26th Congressional District special election

New York Senator Tim Kennedy (D) is running against West Seneca Town Supervisor Gary Dickson (R) for the seat. The winner will serve until December 31, 2024.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the special election to fill the 26th Congressional seat after Rep. Brian Higgins resigned and took a job with Shea's Performing Arts Center as President and CEO. 

New York Senator Tim Kennedy (D) is running against West Seneca Town Supervisor Gary Dickson (R) for the seat.  The winner will serve until December 31, 2024. 

On April 30, poll hours will be 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Not everyone will get to vote in the special election.  Only those that live in the current 26th District will be allowed to vote. 

That includes: the city of Buffalo, city of Tonawanda, the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, Tonawanda, and portions of the town of West Seneca in Erie County.  In Niagara County, voters who live in cities of Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda and the towns of Cambria, Lewiston, town of Lockport Election Districts 2, 8 & 9, town of Niagara, Pendleton, Porter, Wheatfield and Wilson.
