BUFFALO, N.Y. - Demone Smith, the Masten District Representative on Buffalo's Common Council, has been appointed the new head of the Buffalo Employment and Training Center, also known as BETC.
Smith was appointed by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. He will resign his post with the council and start his new position on Friday. The BETC helps people in Buffalo and Erie County find jobs and also helps employers find qualified workers.
Smith was elected to the Erie County Legislature in 2004. He left that position to fill a vacancy on the Buffalo Common Council in 2008.
