Mayor Brown prepares to leave City Hall this week

Mayor Brown said he and Buffalo Common Council President Christopher Scanlon will have a big announcement Tuesday morning, before he leaves City Hall for good.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown aired the final episode of his weekly radio show "Talk of the Town" on Sunday afternoon.

During the show, Mayor Brown had several guests on, bidding him a final farewell before he takes over leadership duties at Western Regional Off-Track Betting this week.

The guests included Buffalo Common Council President Christopher Scanlon, who will soon take over as Buffalo's new mayor. Brown said he and Scanlon will have a big announcement on Tuesday morning, before he leaves City Hall for good.

The "Talk of the Town" radio show will continue airing on Sunday afternoons. However, it is not certain if Scanlon will take over as the host when he becomes the mayor of Buffalo.

Mayor Brown on Friday conducted a "farewell tour" of sorts, visiting three places that contributed to the development and economic growth during his running the city.

First, he visited the Perry Housing Development, along with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, before heading to the Northland Workforce Training Center and ending along Jefferson Avenue.

"It has been an honor to serve the people of Buffalo as mayor, and I am deeply grateful for the trust, support, and faith that the people of our city — and the Western New York region — have shown in me over the years," Mayor Brown said during the Sunday radio show.

"Together, we have transformed Buffalo, creating new opportunities for our residents, building a brighter future for our residents."

He also praised the "spirit and resilience" shown by the people of Buffalo.
