U.S. House panel refers Cuomo to the Justice Department for potential prosecution

Lawmakers said former Gov. Andrew Cuomo lied to Congress about his involvement in a state COVID report on nursing home deaths.

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives COVID panel has referred former Gov. Andrew Cuomo to the Justice Department for potential prosecution.

Lawmakers said Cuomo lied to Congress about his involvement in a state COVID report on nursing home deaths.

The referral comes after Cuomo testified before the committee and denied reviewing a state health department report that deflected blame for the deaths of thousands of people.

“The Cuomo Administration is responsible for recklessly exposing New York’s most vulnerable population to COVID-19,” U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, the Ohio Republican who chairs the Select Subcommittee on the COVID pandemic, said in a statement on Sept. 10.
