AG To Enforce $100K Fine Against Gabryszak

2 On Your Side has learned that the state Attorney General's office has now been brought in to collect a $100,000 fine levied against former state assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak.

Gabryszak was fined earlier this year by a state ethics group for sexually harassing women who worked for him, as well as running his re-election campaign out of his state office.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - 2 On Your Side has learned that the state Attorney General's office has now been brought in to collect a $100,000 fine levied against former state assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak.

Gabryszak was fined earlier this year by a state ethics group for sexually harassing women who worked for him, as well as running his re-election campaign out of his state office.

The state's Legislative Ethics Commission fined Gabryszak the $100,000 back in February.

The commission found that Gabryszak subjected "seven different women who worked for him to numerous inappropriate and offensive comments of a sexual nature, offensive videos and photographs, and inappropriate physical contact."

In addition, the commission said that Gabryszak violated his oath of office by "misappropriating state resources, including the use of staff, printers, office phones and mailing lists to run his Assembly re-election campaign out of his legislative office."

Over the past few months, the ethics commission has been trying to work out a payment plan with Gabryszak, but has been unable to get him to pay up.

Because of that, it has now turned the matter over to the Attorney General's office to collect the fine.

In terms of how the office would actually collect the money from Gabryszak, a spokeswoman for Schneiderman's office declined to comment.

Now we've learned that Gabryszak has been collecting a state pension of $50,000 a year for the past two years. We were unable to learn however if the Attorney General's office can garnish Gabryszak's pension as a way of collecting the fine.
