LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — New York officials are warning hikers that high-elevation trails in the Adirondacks are muddy and possibly dangerous.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation is urging hikers to be cautious and postpone hikes on trails above 2,500 feet until they dry out. Melting snow and ice are making some steep trails dangerous for hiking.
Officials also are concerned about trail erosion and hikers harming the surrounding vegetation as they avoid the mud.
