Pres. Clinton reflects on life after the White House in new book

Former Pres. Bill Clinton spoke about his new book which reflects on his years after the white house, emphasizing the importance of working together as a society.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — This weekend, former President Bill Clinton is in Little Rock to celebrate 20 years since the opening of his presidential library.

Friday evening he sat down with actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson to discuss his new book where he breaks down his life after the White House and the lessons he learned along the way.

"I like taking responsibility for solving problems, seizing opportunities. I was fascinated, and still am, about how things work," Pres. Clinton said.

Those are just some of the reasons why former President Bill Clinton said he wanted to get involved in politics in the first place.

"How you do something makes all the difference in the world. So that's how I got involved in politics. I thought I could do that maybe better than anybody I'd ever met, and I just wanted to see if I could do it," he said.

We all know what happened next.

After his two presidential terms, he reflected on his years after the White house, emphasizing the importance of working together as a society.

Those words written in the book left an impression on Ferguson, who shared which excerpts stood out the most to him.

"This is the first thing I highlighted in the book: Nevertheless, I continue to believe we all do better when we work together, but to do that in such a polarized environment, you have to be willing to work with people you don't like, along with those who you do. Almost always, cooperation beats conflict, and when you do have to stand your ground, it's wise to leave the door open for reconciliation, the ability, the ability to do that distinguishes great leaders," Ferguson said.

While Pres. Clinton is in Little Rock to celebrate the anniversary of his presidential library, he's also doing his best to express gratitude for the life he has all around.

"I never forget that I am the luckiest person walking around on two legs, and no matter what happens to me, I'll always come out ahead, but you've got to keep trying every day. It's an effort. We are all imperfect," Clinton added.

Clinton's book "Citizen: My Life After the White House" is available in stores and online now.
