Olympian from Tonawanda leads Ken-Ton Memorial Day Parade

Artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez served as grand marshal of the holiday observance on Monday

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The community honored fallen servicemembers with Memorial Day events across Western New York.

Bagpipes and drums filled the air at the annual Ken-Ton Memorial Day parade.

The route started on Delaware Avenue in Tonawanda and ended on Elmwood Avenue in Kenmore.

The grand marshal for this year's parade was artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez, who marked with the entire U.S. Olympic artistic swimming team.

Alvarez is already a two-time Olympian, and hopes to bring home gold again this summer in Paris.

As of Sunday, the Paris Olympics are just 60 days away. You can catch all the action on Channel 2 and NBC.
