KENT, Ohio — May 4, 1970.
It’s a date forever cemented in Kent State University history as four students were killed and nine others hurt when the Ohio National Guard opened fire amid an anti-war protest on campus.
Those killed: Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer and William Schroeder.
At noon Saturday, the campus community and visitors with gather at the Kent State Commons "to commemorate the moment that gunfire erupted 54 years ago."
"The commemoration will include a performance by the Kent Chorale, feature remarks from university students and administrators, the ringing of the Victory Bell and a moment of silence at 12:24 p.m.," according to organizers.
The 2024 May 4 events come as protests have been happening on campuses across the country -- including Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland -- with pro-Palestinian demonstrators setting up encampments amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

The events of that fateful day at KSU also inspired the song Ohio by Crosby, Stills and Nash, which you can hear in the player below.
