JD Vance says the Trump campaign will be in Michigan 'probably every week' at rally in Marne

Vance held a campaign event at Berlin Raceway in Marne Wednesday evening.

MARNE, Mich. — Fresh off the debate stage Tuesday night, Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance hosted a campaign event in key swing state Michigan Wednesday evening.

His first Michigan stop on Wednesday was in the northern Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills.

Then Vance traveled to West Michigan for another rally just outside of the greater Grand Rapids area at Berlin Raceway in Marne.

After Tuesday night's debate against Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, he said, "what I said to the governor last night is he has got, actually, the toughest job in American politics in some ways, I've got the easiest job in American politics."

Vance covered key issues on voters' minds such as tackling inflation and other economic issues. He also talked about the border and Israel.

The Trump and Harris campaigns have had a flurry of Midwest events leading up to the November general election.

13 ON YOUR SIDE asked Vance why his campaign has been in Michigan so often already this campaign. He explained how important the Great Lakes Staste is in this election, saying Michiganders were likely to see either him or Trump speaking in the state "probably every week."

He added, "if we're investing in American energy resources and American workers, if we're penalizing companies that are shipping jobs overseas and rewarding the workers and businesses that are building things right here in the United States of America, Michigan is going to lead a great American manufacturing Renaissance, and I want to carry that message to all corners of the state, but especially to Grand Rapids."

Talking about the auto industry, Vance said, "what Donald Trump and I want to do is empower people to drive the cars that they want to drive, and empower Michigan auto workers to make what the American people want."

Ahead of Vance's visit, Mike Rogers, a Republican running for U.S. Senate in Michigan against U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, said a Trump administration will make things more affordable for Michiganders.

"Following a commanding debate performance, Senator Vance is back in Michigan today showing how he and President Trump will make America affordable again. The Democrats' reckless tax and spend policies are forcing working class families to live paycheck to paycheck. Michigan deserves better than four more years of Slotkin and Harris, with Trump and Vance we'll Get America Back on Track," Rogers said in a statement.

Also ahead of Vance's visit, Congresswomen Hillary Scholten and Haley Stevens hosted a joint Grand Rapids news conference denouncing the Trump-Vance agenda.

"JD Vance is back in Michigan today trying to sell Donald Trump's empty promises to Michiganders once again, but we aren't buying it. He makes the contrast in this election abundantly clear," Scholten said. "you have Donald Trump and JD Vance who will ship our jobs to China in a heartbeat, line the pockets of their billionaire donors and leave working people out to dry."

Vice President Kalama Harris plans campaign stops in Wisconsin and Michigan later this week, including a rally in Flint, Michigan on Friday.
