NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music star Morgan Wallen was arrested on felony charges after police say he threw a chair off the rooftop of a newly opened six-story bar in downtown Nashville.
According to the Nashville Police Department, the 30-year-old Wallen was on the roof of the Chief's on Broadway bar on Sunday night when he tossed a chair down to the street below.
An arrest affidavit says the chair landed about three feet from a pair of police officers. The officers began investigating, talking to witnesses and reviewing security footage. Witnesses told officers that they watched Wallen pick up a chair, throw it over the roof and laugh about it.
The arrest report said officers reviewed security footage showing Wallen dragging an object to the side of the roof and tossing it down to the street six stories below.
A booking photo released by the Metro Nashville Police Department shows a smiling Wallen after he was booked into jail early Monday morning.
Wallen's attorney, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest late Sunday and told the Associated Press that the singer was cooperating fully with authorities.
Booking records from Davidson County show Wallen faces one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and three counts of felony reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $15,250, and Nashville media outlets report that he was released on bail around 3:30 a.m. local time.
His court date is set for May 3.
Wallen was originally a contestant on the sixth season of singing competition show "The Voice," before launching his professional music career with an EP in 2015.
His latest album, 2023's "One Thing At a Time," topped the Billboard 200 for months, breaking the country album record for most weeks at No. 1 on the charts.
Wallen is currently touring the U.S. in support of the album, with his next performance scheduled in Mississippi on April 20.
The bar where the incident took place, Chief's on Broadway, held its grand opening this weekend. The venue is a collaboration between a Nashville developer and country singer Eric Church, for whom it is named.
The stage at the bar's two-story concert hall contains wood from a a former still on Church's land. The venue contains pews from 1890 and stained glass windows depicting some of Church's biggest influences, as an homage to the singer.
