BUFFALO, NY – Paul J. Christopher was arrested Thursday afternoon following an assault on his ex-wife's boyfriend.
Christopher is the man who recorded former Commissioner of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority (BMHA) Joseph Mascia using racist terms to describe several elected leaders in Buffalo, and African-Americans in general. That recording later cost Mascia his job.
Town of Tonawanda Police say Christopher is accused of attacking the current boyfriend of his ex-wife at a baseball game on Brompton Road, in the area of Paddock Golf Dome.
Police say Christopher, 43, used a pen to stab and slash the boyfriend in the head.
He was arrested and is charged with a felony and three misdemeanors: assault in the second degree (the felony), criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt (for violating an order of protection the ex-wife had obtained), and endangering the welfare of a child (the assault was committed in the presence of their 12-year-old daughter).
The alleged assault happened Thursday at about 6 p.m. Christopher was arraigned in Town of Tonawanda Court on Friday and was remanded to the Eire County holding center with no bail pending a felony hearing and other proceedings.
The felony hearing is scheduled for Monday June 20 at 2 p.m. in Town of Tonawanda Court.
The victim was treated at Kenmore Mercy Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Joseph Mascia was fired from his job as BMHA commissioner when the recordings made by Chrisptopher surfaced in July of 2015.
