BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 107 Sheffield Avenue, near South Park and McKinley, at about 9:10 p.m. Thursday. Buffalo Fire Commissioner
Garnell Whitfield says one victim who was found in a rear stairway is in serious condition.
Whitfield told 2 On Your Side that firefighters had been called to the same address earlier in the day, at about 3:30 p.m. They found the same man burning papers in the back of the building.
Buffalo fire marshals and members of the Buffalo Police homicide detectives were investigating. Whitfield said “every fire is suspicious until deemed otherwise.”
The fire is believed to have caused about $90,000 worth of damage to the structure and its contents. Five other residents exited the building safely.
