YMCA campers race in annual youth track and field Fun Day

Events included a 50-yard dash, a 100-yard dash, a softball throw, and a football throw.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nearly 100 YMCA campers got the opportunity to race in the annual youth track and field Fun Day.

The William-Emslie YMCA and Archie L. Hunter Scholarship Committee held the meet at All High Stadium.

Events included a 50-yard dash, a 100-yard dash, a softball throw, and a football throw. The competitions focused on fitness, confidence, setting goals, and good sportsmanship.

Danielle Roberts, the vice president of Community Impact for YMCA Buffalo Niagara, talked with 2 On Your Side about why the event is so important.

"It's important because kids need to be physically fit, they need to be active," Roberts said. "We want to encourage healthy lifestyles so that kids know it's not just when I'm part of a team, but that they can be physically active every single day."

Winners from each event were presented with awards at the end of the track meet.
