GOWANDA, N.Y. — A woman had to be rescued from Zoar Valley, after she said she was too tired to climb out of the 250-foot gorge, according to Gowanda Fire Chief Nick Crassi.

Police say the woman was hiking with her boyfriend Saturday, when she realized she was too exhausted to finish climbing near the Valentine Flats. Her boyfriend climbed up the gorge, and then called for help.

Firefighers arrived at about 7:30 p.m. and were able to rappel down to her and bring her to safety. She was uninjured.

Crassi said both hikers were in their mid-20s.

A Department of Environmental Conservation forest ranger, a water rescue unit and Orchard Park and Eden emergency responders were all called to assist the rescue.
