BATAVIA, N.Y. — A woman died after her car overturned and caught on fire in Batavia on Saturday night, the Batavia Police Department said.

The City of Batavia Fire Department and the Batavia Police Department responded to a call of power lines down on Creek Road around 9:37 p.m.

Upon arriving to the scene, they said they saw the car in an embankment in the area.

Police and fire officials entered the car, put out the fire and pulled out 24-year-old Tanysha Thomas from Caledonia.

She was pronounced dead at UMMC, according to police.

They added that no one else was in the car with her.

A preliminary investigation concluded Thomas lost control of her vehicle while heading north on Creek Road. She hit a pole, a tree and then rolled down the embankment.

The car ended up completely upside down, officials say.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department at 585-345-6350.
