ALBANY, N.Y. — Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday that $36 million was awarded to five counties, including Erie and Monroe, in New York State to fund projects for permanent supportive housing.
The result will be 249 new units of housing for individuals and families who've experienced homelessness, according to the governor's press release.
The Episcopal Community Housing Development Organization will be supporting Erie County's community.
The $3.8 million will be allotted for this project that will fund a community comprised of 16 units for adults 55 years old and older.
This housing will be located in the Village of Angola and will include laundry facilities, a large green space outdoors, and a 52-space parking lot. The proposal discusses the construction of a three-story building.
Episcopal Church Home & Affiliates President & CEO Rob Wallace said, “The availability of homes with support services for vulnerable populations is a glaring need in New York. Our expansion of the St. Paul's Apartments development will help address this situation by providing 16 dedicated apartments for local seniors who are frail and housing unstable."
Across the state, people impacted by serious mental illness or those who have aged out of foster care will be among the population able to take advantage of this opportunity.
In addition to Erie and Monroe, other counties involved include Kings, Jefferson, and Steuben.
“From Brooklyn to Watertown, these diverse projects across New York demonstrate our commitment to investing in housing that strengthens our communities and makes every region of our state a safer, healthier, and more affordable place to live,” Governor Hochul said.
