Motorcyclist dead after crashing into SUV head-on in Stafford

Ciarpelli was thrown off his motorcycle and was found on the north shoulder of State Route 33. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

STAFFORD, N.Y. — A 20-year-old man has died after an accident in the Town of Stafford on Saturday around 5:36 p.m., the Genesee County Sheriff's Office said.

According to officials, Michael J. Ciarpelli of Rochester was killed after his motorcycle hit an SUV head-on.

Ciarpelli was driving westbound on State Route 33. It's reported that he tried to pass two vehicles in front of him. 

SUV driver Luanne E. Andrews and passenger Colleen L. O'mara were making a left turn off of Griswold Road and started to drive on State Route 33.

When Ciarpelli tried to pass the vehicles, he crashed into Andrews' vehicle in the eastbound lane, police say.

Ciarpelli was thrown off his motorcycle and was found on the north shoulder of State Route 33. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

It is not known if Andrews or O'mara are suffering from any injuries.

The crash is currently being investigated.
