BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two WNY towns have announced their holiday home decorating contests.
The Village of Lancaster is celebrating its 175th anniversary.
To sign up, follow this link and register for free by Dec. 6. All houses that sign up will be included on a map that will be shared with the community.
From Dec. 10-12, a select panel of judges will be viewing the decorated homes and will award points based on creativity, originality, use of lights and decorations, and overall presentation.
The top three winners will receive the following prizes:
- 1st Place: Two vouchers for tickets to the Lancaster Opera House and a $50 gift certificate to 99 Brick Oven Bar & Grille.
- 2nd Place: A prize basket assembled by the Lancaster Village Merchants Association
- 3rd Place: A collection of historic books about the Village and Town of Lancaster donated by the Town of Lancaster Historian’s office.
The Town of Tonawanda also announced on Friday they are bringing back their Ken-Ton Sustainable Holiday Decorating Contest for another year.
The goal of this contest is to ensure decorating ideas are environmentally friendly, while also celebrating the holiday season.
Ideas for sustainable design include LED lights, homemade decorations, and reused materials.

The Town's Environment Commission is judging the homes and prizes of $25 gift certificates will be awarded for specific achievements:
- Award for Spirit of Christmas
- Award for Most Creative Display
- Award for Most Traditional Display
- Award for Best Overall Theme
- WOW Factor
- Supervisor’s Favorite
Applications are due December 13.
